Pentatonic Scale Exercise

Pentatonic scales are great for soloing on the guitar. They are pretty easy to use and they sound great too. This little lesson will give you a simple exercise for using pentatonic scales. If you like this lesson there are a lot more great online guitar lessons that you can take.

This particular pentatonic scale exercise uses string pairs to move up and down the fretboard. If you have never played pentatonic scales like this it can be a bit strange feeling at first. It may take you a bit of time to memorize the pattern going up the fretboard but that is pretty normal.

Practice this slowly at first and you will have it down in no time. Exercises like this can get you out of the rut of playing pentatonic box scale shapes. Great for spicing up your soloing! This particular scale is also great for keeping your fretting hand in shape.

Here is a great guitar lesson video to help that will explain this pentatonic exercise in greater detail.
